We are pleased to announce that the Managing Newsroom Diversity project has joined the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) 2025 as a scientific patron and coordinating partner for the Polish edition of the study.

Three researchers affiliated with Managing Newsroom Diversity – two from the research team and one from the advisory board – will serve as co-coordinators of GMMP Poland: Dr. Greta Gober (KTH, Sweden), Dr.hab. Anna Jupowicz-Ginalska (University of Warsaw), and Dr. Margaret Amaka Ohia-Nowak (UMCS Lublin).

The second scientific partner is the Institute of Social Communication and Media Sciences at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.

What is GMMP?

Since 1995, GMMP has been tracking gender representation in global news media, analyzing how women and other underrepresented groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals and racial and ethnic minorities, are portrayed in the news. The project examines both traditional media (print, radio, TV) and digital platforms, offering a critical insight into gender biases in journalism.

The most recent edition, GMMP 2020, covered 116 countries, including Poland, producing data on gender visibility, representation, and media stereotypes. The next wave, GMMP 2025, will once again monitor news content in over 100 countries, contributing to a deeper understanding of gender dynamics in media narratives.

A Social Project Built on Volunteer Effort

GMMP is a social project, meaning that all contributions—from research coordination to data collection—are made on a voluntary basis. It is a global effort that brings together academics, media professionals, activists, and students working toward more inclusive and equitable media representation.

Our Role in GMMP 2025

As a scientific patron and coordinating partner, Managing Newsroom Diversity will contribute to aligning GMMP’s methodology with the Polish media landscape, selecting categories relevant to Poland to ensure meaningful and localized analysis. The team will also focus on recruiting and training volunteers to conduct the monitoring and disseminating research findings to support discussions on newsroom diversity and gender equity in journalism.

This partnership strengthens our mission to critically examine diversity in journalism and contribute to data-driven insights that support inclusive media practices.
