On behalf of the project’s team, Anna Jupowicz-Ginalska participated in the MIRROR OF THE MEDIA IV: FROM CHAT BOTS TO CX AND UX conference (Gdańsk, 4 December 2023).

The event was a joint organizational venture of researchers from the Gdańsk University of Technology, the University of Gdańsk and the Jagiellonian University, and the Professor Bruno Synak Pomeranian Scientific Institute.

Anna Jupowicz-Gialska presented “From Social Media to UX: New Technologies and Diversity Management in Editorial (Polish perspective)”. The presentation discussed how the media defines diversity and what managing it looks like in reality. To this end, solutions implemented by media organizations to increase the discursive diversity of the newsroom, both among (co-)employees and the content produced, were identified and analyzed. Due to the conference’s theme, the presentation focused on the Polish perspective, posing whether new technologies (including social media, instant messaging and UX) influence diversity management in the editorial office and, if so, how.

Based on unique data obtained through 18 interviews (with eight editors and ten journalists representing the country’s leading online media outlets), the intersections between technology, the ideal of ‘multiculturalism’, and the real-world work of the editorial team were discussed: from selecting the content’s subject matter, to recognizing the significance of audience preferences, to fostering relationships within the organization.
